How To Build A Skincare Routine: 6-Simple Steps To Do In The Morning

Having a good skincare routine is a necessity when it comes to maintaining radiant and healthy skin. Yes, it takes time and discipline, but everyone should have the habit and spare 5 to 10 minutes in the morning. This is the average time I recommend to take proper care of the skin on your face.

In this blog post, I will share the six steps for a good skincare routine that I carry out every morning.

1. Cleanse your face:

I start my morning by splashing my face with cold water. It's very refreshing and wakes me up right away. Then I use a foaming cleanser as I massage my face with the tip of my fingers. I move them energetically to awaken my senses and help the blood flow circulate faster in the facial area. I then rinse thoroughly with cool water and dump with a soft face cloth.

2. Tone & Spray:

The second step is to apply a toner and then spray a facial mist. Rosewater toners and mists are my favourites.

3. Apply face serum:

There are various face serums on the market, and you should choose one based on the type and current needs of your skin. I love using Vitamin C serum.

4. Apply eye cream:

This is an essential step of my skincare routine since the skin around this area is very delicate. I apply a small quantity of the product around the eyes carefully with my index or middle fingers using a tapping gesture for application.

5. Apply moisturiser:

This is a must when it comes to a good skincare routine. You should use a reputable moisturiser that specifically applies to your skin type. I use very light gel cream with sakura that promotes brightening and diminishes the look of dark spots and unevenness.

6. Apply sunscreen:

I always apply sunscreen even when it's cloudy outside. UV rays are very strong and you should do everything possible to prevent skin cancer, premature skin ageing and the appearance of wrinkles. I am a consumer of tinted sunscreens for face and I use a product with at least SPF 50+. BB & CC creams are my personal preference as I can have more coverage of my facial imperfections such as dark circles and redness.

If you don’t have a consistent skincare routine, it’s never too late to start one. You can follow my six steps, or you can apply only a few to start your journey at a comfortable pace. Whatever your skin routine is, especially during the moments you are in a rush, I would suggest you clean your face with a gentle cleanser & apply a moisturiser with SPF.

P.S. For this blog post, I’ve been avoiding mentioning the products’ brands I use on purpose.

I believe everyone should do their due diligence & consult with a dermatologist regarding your personal skin's needs. Everyone has different skin care needs and there are products for all ranges of skin from dryer to oilier. Make sure you are considering your specific skin needs & product ingredients. I cannot over emphasise the power of doing your own research and not blindly trusting blogs, videos and recommendations.

Have a lovely day, You, Beautiful Sunshine!

Much love,
